Why British Hedge Plants

Native hedges are perhaps the most under-appreciated feature of the British countryside. They've been here since the bronze age, so perhaps we just take them for granted. They're fantastic carbon sinks and windbreaks, as well of course as making efficent stock - and human! - proof barriers. They even help prevent pollution and water run-off. More than all this, though, they're fabulous for wildlife. They don't just offer animals protection and corridors for movement, they give pollinators blossom for months and months, and provide a rich larder of hedgerow fruit. Hedge plants are also food plants to hundreds - thousands - of different insect larvae.

We sell hedge whips which aren't just native to the UK, they're grown here from British origin seed. We think this is important. They're sourced from a small group of growers around the country.
